Crown Point Community School Corporation

Delayed Start Wednesdays

Question and Answer

What does the CPCSC value?

While pursuing and achieving high standards of achievement, Crown Point Schools value and support on-going professional development job training, school improvement collaboration, and parent-teacher conferences.

Why is there a time change on Wednesday?

On March 17th the Department of Education notified Indiana school corporations that the practice of granting half-day waivers for professional development, parent-teacher conferences, and final exams were outsidethe scope of the current law. Therefore, every day school must be a minimum of 300 minutes in elementary and 360 minutes in middle and high school. Although legislative actions were pursued to maintain half-days as part of the school year without financial penalty, by June 30th no changes were made.

During the first week of July corporation leaders met to discuss plans to recover time for professional development job training, school improvement collaboration, and parent-teacher conferences within the state parameters. Considering student instructional time, student pick-up times, traffic flow, time of day, and before and after school programs a plan was drafted. When principals returned from summer vacation in late July and early August, they provided feedback on the plan, as well as the Departments of Transportation, Food Services, and Child Care and the Crown Point Education Association.
